ARTIFICIAL RELIEFS

Artificial Reliefs is a project based on visual-experimentation with spatial audiovisual installations.

CONCEPT

Artificial Reliefs is a longterm experimentation project I did in 2018 where I created a lot of different spatial, audiovisual installations. The main concept was to show the contrast between the analog and the digital, which I did by projecting abstract visuals directly on the surface of paintings.

DESIGN

For this project I made five paintings and five video’s, which both related to the theme ‘noise’. I presented the works all together as a 360 degrees art installation, by projecting the video’s with a beamer directly on the paintings (which I hang on the wall). The contrast of the pixelated projections and the rough paint (which was still a little wet) created an interesting visualisation of the past and the present. I also placed a little mirror in the centre of the installation, to experiment with the concept of reflection.

EXECUTION

Spatial, audiovisual installation with paintings, visuals and mirrors.

TECHNIQUE

Video-mapping, paintings, visuals made by layering found footage. For the sound aspect of the installation I created the soundtrack ‘Opposites of White’ which was based on the concept of floating water. Later on, I also made a music-video for the track, with the visuals I also used in the installation.

REALITY IS A MOVEMENT

'Reality Is A Movement', is a spatial-installation which includes the use of mirrors and 3D exteriors. The goal was to create both intimacy and overwhelmingness at the same time.

CONCEPT

For this project I want to explore the boundaries of spatial design more. I also want to use lightning-design, mirrors, and optical illusion for Reality is a Movement.

DESIGN

At this point in the process I’m working with black and white composition based on the concept of optical illusion, with slowly adding 3D layers on top of it.

EXECUTION

Immersive, spatial installation / 360 degrees light+ sound construction

TECHNIQUES

At this point in the process I’m working a lot with 3D layers in Blender and video-mapping projections on objects.
